Geometric shapes and clear simplicity are characteristic of Van Schijndel's work. He liked to experiment with new materials and techniques and often came up with a simple solution for a complex problem.

After the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Mart van Schijndel started his own agency in 1968. He has a large number of projects in the field of architecture and interior design to his name. He also designed the furniture and lighting for many of these projects.

In 1995 Van Schijndel received the Rietveld Prize for his house at the Pieterskerkhof in Utrecht. At the bottom of the page there is a video where Mart himself talks about his house and also a nice interview with Marjan and Gerard Unger about the house that Mart designed for them.
